Race Details

Scheduled for Saturday, September 2nd, the Turtle Marathon 2017 is an exciting event. If you are interested in either the half or full marathon, you will need to register at this website and then meet at Cahoon Park, located at 1101 W. Fourth Street, at 5:30 a.m. Be sure to get plenty of rest the night before and eat your carbs before heading out. However, if you prefer to participate in the 5K walk/run, your start time, also at Cahoon Park, is 8:00 a.m.

This annual event has become a big part of Roswell’s history, along with Area 51 and the 1947 UFO “incident” that led to the production of multiple movies, television shows, and documentaries. Whether you believe in UFOs and aliens or not, one of the highlights of the event is the gorgeous scenery. Officials do an incredible job laying out the course, making it perfect for walkers and runners of all ages and skill levels.

Compared to other marathons held throughout the country, the Turtle Marathon 2017 boasts some of the lowest entrance fees. For instance, to participate in the half marathon, you would only have to pay $30. However, officials do advise that this price could increase as the race day approaches.

Turtle Marathon 2017 Course

After leaving Cahoon Park, marathoners, as well as walkers and runners of the 5K, will follow a course that will take them along biking paths for the first few miles. They will then head over to US Highway 70, going westbound for several miles. Once walkers and runners reach the halfway point, they will turn around, heading back to Cahoon Park where it all began.

New to Marathons? No Problem!

Although this annual event typically only draws about 30 runners for each the half and full marathon, it is exceptional. Regardless of your level of participation, once crossing the finish line, everyone gets rewarded with a ceramic turtle to commemorate their success.

Organizers remind participants that in early August, Roswell is hot. Therefore, marathoners along with 5K walkers and runners are advised to dress appropriately and to take advantage of water stops along the way.
